Questions we get a lot about stump grinding.
How deep do you grind stumps?
Standard grind is 200-400mm below ground level, which is enough for turf, garden beds, paving sand bases and most landscaping. If you're building a slab or a footing over the top, tell us — we'll grind deeper.
Can stumps be ground in tight back gardens?
Yes. We use handheld grinders for sites where a full rig won't fit through the side gate. Slower, but no fence damage, no pavers lifted, no compromise on the finish.
Will the tree grow back?
Once the stump is ground out and major surface roots are removed, regrowth is rare. Some species (camphor laurel, privet, willow) will throw up suckers from deeper roots — we use a chemical root-kill on those at the time of grinding to stop it.
What do you do with the wood chips?
Whatever you want. We can leave them as mulch (free), bag them for you, or haul them off-site. Most customers keep them — fresh tree mulch is great for garden beds.
Do you grind stumps you didn't remove?
Routinely. Plenty of customers had a tree taken down years ago and never had the stump dealt with. Different crew, different job, no problem.
